MP Maingrette declares himself independent. Resigns from the N.O.W. Party

House of Parliament House of Parliament

SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) – Member of Parliament (MP) Kevin Maingrette has resigned from the N.O.W party, and declared independence citing a lack of decisive action amid chaos, disorder, a lack of transparency, and most critically, insufficient communication within the 2x4 government.

He has left the door open for his former leader to join the new coalition; however, his former leader's inaction has left the MP with no other choice. In a letter dated May 20th, 2024, he wrote, "The N.O.W has failed to prioritize the nation, passively observing the chaos and failing to take decisive actions in the best interest of Sint Maarten."

Moreover, MP Maingrette pointed out that certain members were effectively holding the coalition hostage, complicating efforts to meet the diverse requirements of four distinct parties with differing ideologies.

"My own party leader struggled to pass the screening, and his difficulties have led to almost daily threats, a lack of communication, and outright dictatorship," he stated.

"The government was not free to govern in the best interest of Sint Maarten but rather catered to the few, constantly under the threat from those who were most vocal or chose to abstain."

MP Maingrette emphasized the responsibility of both the legislative and executive branches to vote their conscience in the best interest of Sint Maarten.

The letter written by independent MP Maingrette and sent to the N.O.W. party board reads as follows:

Philipsburg, Sint Maarten

Subject: N.O.W Party, Resignation

Dear N.O.W Party Board, It is with a heavy heart that I submit my resignation from the N.O.W party, effective immediately. This decision was not made lightly and comes after considerable reflection on my personal values and the direction I believe Sint Maarten should go. The N.O.W has failed to stand on the principles of country first, as they watched the chao, and lack decisive actions in the best interest of Sint Maarten. I am grateful for the opportunities and to contribute to our shared objectives during my time with the party. I have learned a great deal and cherished the shared dedication to our causes. Thank you once again for your support and opportunity in the last election. I look forward to remaining an active member of the community and hope to find new ways to contribute to our collective goals in the future. King regards, MP Kevin Maingrette
