WEATHER WATCH: St. Barths Clocks 65 mph winds from TS Ernesto

SINT MAARTEN/CARIBBEAN – Soualiga Newsday Weather Watch (SNWW) reports that the island of St. Barths has clocked sustained winds of 65 miles per hour (mph) from Tropical Storm (TS) Ernesto as it makes it track across the Leeward Islands on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
Tropical Storm Ernesto is several miles south of the islands of St. Kitts & Nevis (as of 12:20 pm) and moving in the direction of the U.S. and British Virgin Islands. Ernesto will pass through the Leeward Islands during the morning and afternoon hours of Tuesday.
Ernesto has strengthened with wind speeds of 50 miles per hour according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC). Additional strengthening is forecast, and Ernesto could become a category 1 hurricane on Wednesday, August 14.
The NHC has now issued a Hurricane Watch for the U.S. and British Virgin Islands and Vieques and Culebra (islands off the eastern coast of Puerto Rico).
The center of Ernesto should pass over the Virgin Islands this evening (Tuesday).
