SABA (THE BOTTOM) - Following the launch of the Car Wreck and Metal Waste Removal Project the 28th of August, Public Entity Saba is pleased to announce the successful relocation of over 35 car wrecks to the Waste Management Facility, where they will be processed and baled for recycling. In total, there are already around 150 car wrecks at the waste facility currently. PES would like to remind the public that this project also includes scrap metal such as steel, galvalume, and even old engines. The swift progress in removing these cars shows community interest and highlights the necessity of the project in maintaining high public health standards and ensuring the safety of residents.
Car wrecks and metal waste pose significant risks to public health and safety. They can serve as breeding grounds for pests like mosquitoes and rats, while also becoming hazards during emergencies or natural disasters. By removing these potential dangers, the project is actively contributing to the well-being of the entire island.
Additionally, recycling efforts are ongoing at the Waste Management Facility and metal baling plays a crucial role in the recycling process, whereby efficiently compressing large metal items will optimize space at the waste facility. Once baled, the metal will be exported off the island for recycling, contributing to a more sustainable future.
Public Entity Saba encourages residents to take advantage of this opportunity, which remains available for disposing of car wrecks and any metal waste located on private property, with no cost to the owners. Residents should note that capacity at the waste facility is limited. Certain objects will therefore not always immediately be transported to the facility after a request is made. Keeping yards and surroundings free of scrap metal is a key step in maintaining a clean and safe environment for all. This initiative reflects the island's ongoing commitment to improving public health, safety, and sustainability.
